Finishes: Basic Coatings Easy Street

Basic Coatings® Easy Street™ is a single component clear water based floor finish suitable for residential and commercial applications.  It is very durable and has a low odor.  It comes in different sheens: Matte, Satin, Semi-Gloss and Gloss.  It dries in approximately 3 hours and fully cured in 7 days.

Basic Coatings® is an American manufacture of high quality hardwood floor finishes.  Even though Basic Coatings has been around since the 1950’s they don’t sit back on past success.  They are constantly working to improve their products to make them some of the most durable on the market today.

Easy Street™ is the new kid on the block when it comes to high quality single component water based finishes.  When asked why they took longer than everyone else to produce a high quality single component product the answer was “simple we wanted it to be the best”.

When manufactures compare their products to others they usually don’t name names.  Not the case with Easy Street, they actually name the finishes they test it against.  They tested it against some of the most popular finishes in that category, such as Bona Mega™ and Pallmann X-96™, and Easy Street easily comes out as being the hardest most durable finish of them all.

I was asked to look at it and give it a try.  I have been using Pallmann X-96 for many years and had been pretty satisfied with its performance.  After looking at the test results I was willing to try it out on a few floors, as in real world application tells a better story than lab results.  Well after finishing a few floors with Easy Street I must say I really like it.  It looks really good, does appear to be a more durable finish, and is easy enough for the professional to apply.  I’ll be anxious to try it on my own floors as my kids and dog are the real product durability testers (they are quite hard on a floor).

We highly recommend anyone who wants a highly durable, low odor, cost effective finish to go with Basic Coatings Easy Street.
